How to stop birth control + balance hormones naturally ~ a 5 step Naturopathic guide

Many of you are waking up to the birth control revolution!

When it was released in 1961, hormonal birth control was a momentous occasion for women worldwide, allowing women to take control of their reproductive health, to enter the workforce, give freedom from unwanted pregnancy and for planned parenthood. It was integral in the development of women’s rights.

BUT, what they didn’t highlight and what they still don’t tell you are the potential complications ~ from nutritional deficiencies, gut microbiome imbalances, blocking communication from the brain to your ovaries, loss of libido, suppressing ovulation, increased risk of blood clots and so on!

I am passionate about allowing women to make an INFORMED choice about their health.

So,

Are you currently on birth control but looking at alternatives?

Were you just put on birth control as a teenager but don’t really know if it’s right for you?

Have you decided it’s time to find another option?

Well, you are in the right place! Let’s take a look at my 5 step Naturopathic approach on stopping hormonal birth control!

1.Educate yourself

Read + learn. Get to know what your hormonal contraception is actually doing.
Did you know?
Hormonal contraception can block the communication between your brain and ovaries? Or that the bleed you have on the pill is NOT a real period? Even that the pill can cause an imbalance in your gut microbiome?

2. Have an alternative in place

Baby not on the cards just yet? Make sure you have an alternative contraceptive method in place.
My favourite hormonal free method is the Fertility Awareness Method (temperature + cervical mucus tracking). This gives you crucial clues on the real health of your menstrual cycle.

3. Focus on Nutrition

Did you know?
The pill can deplete crucial nutrients from your system including zinc, magnesium, B vitamins + more.
To minimise any withdrawals ensure you are filled nutritionally with a varied diet + replacing some key nutrients here. These nutrients are key in healthy hormone production.

4. Ensure elimination pathways are optimal

Focus on your gut, liver and lymphatics ~ these superstars help you detox old synthetic hormones allowing for your body to better balance itself.
TIP ~ cruciferous veg including broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower are high in DIM + indole-3-carbinol both of which help to metabolise and clear oestrogen.

5. Support healthy hormone production

Hormonal contraception actually shuts off the communication between your brain and ovaries, so if you've been on it a while, it's not hard to believe your body can take some time to reboot and re-communicate.

A naturopath can give you an individual + tailored herbal treatment plan to effectively support your body in this phase.
